Transfers to LSSD

Filed under: General Issues, Mickey Hall, Mike Davis, School Board — Wilson County School Watch @ 9:48 pm

At Church on Wednesday our friends tell us that their daughter is transfering to a school in LSSD next year. They recently had to fill out the re-registration form at their school, they noted on there the transfer will take place. They do not live in the city, however they requested, and were granted, an exemption by LSSD. Why is the family going to a City school? Simple, they are fed up with what has been happening this year at their K-8 school. The kids are running rampant, the Principal is only concerned with “feel-goodism” and not grades, and several teachers have told them about the Principal trying to get the teachers to “reconsider” bad grades for a couple of athletes and a SEEK student.

They want their child in a school where the children are held accountable and not passed on to the next grade just to keep up the numbers of those “passing”. So essentially they are giving up the chance to talk the Principal into getting teachers to change grades so their child can remain an “A” student if she ever falters.

I want to see the Board publicly release the data showing how many students do not return to their prior schools each year due to transfers to LSSD or Private Schools. We know the school system has that data, the parents are instructed to note any transfers on the re-registration forms. I doubt they will release aggregate data, it might show who is failing using a different metric than the ones they use for positive spin reporting.

Wonder how they will explain away the drop in TCAP scores when they are reported later this year at schools with new principals appointed by Hall and where discipline in in the toilet????

We will be reporting on the Principal’s, Director’s, and Board’s spin.

Join me at the next Board meeting. We are watching.
