Davis is misleading parents in automated phone call.

Filed under: Director of Schools, General Issues, Mickey Hall, Mike Davis — Wilson County School Watch @ 10:58 am

Had a call from Mike Davis via the school’s automated phone call system the other day.  He reminded us that we need to take our kids to school on Friday (today), and that it would save the county $20,000 if the buses did not run.
Ok, that is a little misleading Mr. Davis.  The buses use 1,600 gallons of fuel a day, that’s about $7,375 in costs for diesel at today’s national average.  Include paying the drivers, then we are talking upping it to $10,000 or so.  Not $20,000.

The school system will save a combined $20,000 by not running the buses on the last day of school next Spring (June 6th, a Saturday).

So was Davis being deceitful on purpose, by claiming $20k instead of $10k for today’s savings?  Chances are not totally deceitful, just trying to make himself look fiscally responsible instead by stretching the truth.

Why didn’t he get this bright idea of not running the buses on last year’s last day of school (on a Saturday)????  On average at one school less than 10 kids were on each bus that day.  He already had a chance to save us $10k that day.  The problem being the budget was not up for review in May, it is now.  Now he wants to appear fiscally responsible as he gets ready to ask the County Commission to raise our taxes.  “I’m a good steward of our money, so trust me and Hall with more….(snicker)”

We are watching, and we are not impressed.
